Skiing, Tobogganing and Winter Hiking
In winter, the green Alpine pastures are transformed into white slopes promising unadulterated fun in the snow. Families with children love the Vans Penken Park and the Fun Slope on Leisure Mount Ahorn for snowboarding. Action Mount Penken and Leisure Mount Ahorn are part of the extensive "Ski Zillertal 3000 - Hintertux Glacier" skiing area that brings five local areas together and, with 196 kilometres of ski slops, is one of the largest skiing areas in Zillertal.
Skiing and Snowboarding
142 km of well-groomed ski runs with a total of 58 modern lifts offer great winter sports facilities on the Ahorn, Penken and Horberg mountains. The Penken skiing area comprises Finkenberg, Rastkogl and Eggalm. It is one of the largest and most varied skiing areas in Austria.
Snowboarders and freeskiers particularly enjoy Penken Park, which is divided into eight different areas. Racing skiers prefer Slope 15 in the Unterberg racing paradise. A further attraction is the "Harakiri Hill" - with a gradient of 78%, the descent is Austria's 'blackest' slope.
Tobogganing & Pistenbock Sleds & Snow Tubing
Tobogganing is fantastic fun for children and adults. Experience the idyllic snow-covered winter landscape and breathtaking mountain panorama with a speedy toboggan ride down into the valley.
In the Gerlossstein skiing area you can try snow tubing on specially prepared runs, or explore a classic natural toboggan run that goes from Brindlingalm on Hochschendberg down to the valley.
The Pistenbock is an alternative to skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing. Children, young people and adults can experience an unforgettable time tobogganing on Ahorn with this steerable sled.
Cross-Country Skiing for Everyone
Groomed classic cross-country skiing trails offer the best type of winter fun. Whether at an easy pace through the idyllic white winter landscape or more athletically on the marathon and sprint trails, there are cross-country trails to meet all requirements and tastes. A total of four trails are at your disposal. Three of them are also floodlit in the evening.
The "leisure trail" at Burgschrofen, with its very gentle descents and climbs, is particularly popular. Those wishing to train their muscles and improve their skills should try the Burgschrofen 'Profiloipe". Also on offer are easy to master skating trails.
Winter Hikes and Snow-Shoe Trekking
For those who prefer something more leisurely, there are around 80km of well-cleared winter footpaths to choose from. All the footpaths offer fantastic views of the many 3,000m peaks in the Zillertal Alps. Snow shoe trekking, which allows you to glide easily in snow, is also popular.
Circular routes go from Mayrhofen on peaceful trails and quiet roads to the Wiesenhof inn. A lovely winter hiking trail is the route from Ginzling to the idyllically situated Tristenbachalm lodge. However, some tobogganing is to be expected along the route!
Trend Sport - Ice Skating
Ice skating is becoming increasingly popular with both young and old. There is an ice-skating rink in Mayrhofen for the whole family. On Fridays there is also an ice disco with hot rhythms.
Ice hockey and curling are also highly popular on the artificial ice rink. Why not have a go? Two rinks are available for this. After ice skating, the "Eisläuferstübl" bar is a cosy place for refreshments.
